Official Entry Requirements

Official Entry Requirements

Videos must explain computer security problems and specific actions individuals can take to safeguard their computers or personal information. Two categories of videos are being sought: 1) those that cover a broad range of security topics, and 2) those that focus on a single topic.

Ideas for topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Viruses and worms
  • Spyware
  • Phishing
  • Sexting
  • Cyber Bullying
  • Physical threats such as laptop theft or lack of password-protect screen savers
  • Out-of-date operating systems and other installed software
  • Out-of-date (or nonexistent) antivirus software
  • Improperly configured (or nonexistent) firewall
  • Weak or unprotected passwords
  • Unprotected confidential data
  • Lack of backups

The maximum video length is three minutes.

Videos must not reference any specific school, individuals, businesses or other entities by name.

Contest participants must currently be enrolled in and actively attending a high school in the greater Charlottesville Area defined as the City of Charlottesville, Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, and Orange. Students who are educated in the home per Virginia State Law are welcome to enter the contest.  An individual student or a group of students may submit a video. More than one video submission is permissible.

High school students of employees of any of the “Who’s Watching Charlottesville” coalition members are encouraged to participate in the contest.

Videos must be in good taste and appropriate for multicultural high school populations.

Videos must be original and not infringe upon any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary right.

While entrants in the Who's Watching Charlottesville Cyber Security Awareness Video Contest retain ownership of their submissions, by participating in the Contest entrants also grant to the contest organizers an irrevocable license to copy, edit, distribute, display, and make such other non-commercial uses as they wish in their discretion and in any format or medium.
 

Deadline

No video submissions will be accepted after midnight of October 7, 2009.


Judging Criteria

Winning entries will be selected based on:
Creativity
Technical quality (sound, editing, and so forth)
Content (topics covered and quality of information conveyed)
Overall effectiveness of delivery

Who's Watching Charlottesville reserves the right to reject any videos that contain content that do not meet the entry requirements, judging criteria, or are deemed inappropriate for the purposes of this contest.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the winners based on the above criteria.

Grand Prize:

iPod Touch, 3D designs and/or cartoons software packages, and a $100 donation to your High School's Media Department (if entrant is a home school student, the $100 High School Media Department prize will be awarded to the winner's registered school district's nearest public high school)

First Runner Up:

Flip Video Camcorder

Honorable Mention:

iPod Shuffle plus a $20 iTune Gift Card

Videos under 25 MG in size may be submitted by emailing a compressed mov, mpeg,or avi file to wwcvideocontest@gmail.com.  Videos over 25 MB in size must be dropped off at a UVa Community Credit Union Branch labelled as WWC Video Contest in care of Rebecca Cardwell

Indemnity

YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR VIDEO SUBMISSION AND AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD WHOS WATCHING CHARLOTTESVILLE AND ITS AFFILIATES AND THEIR OFFICERS HARMLESS FROM AND AGAINST ANY LOSS, DAMAGE, LIABILITY, COST OR EXPENSE OF ANY KIND (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS' FEES) THAT WE MAY INCUR IN CONNECTION WITH A THIRD PARTY CLAIM .
